Supposed to go down to Ipoh this weekend for my cousin's wedding.  Already started planning where to go for 'chow' , how to 'slip out' for some famous Ho Fun  before attending the buffet dinner on the eve of her wedding, thinking about the mouth-watering roast suckling piglets, one of the must-have during the wedding dinner (funny, never have this dish in all the wedding  in Penang !!  Penang ppl too 'kiap siap' or health conscious ?) months earlier and planning to take some nice pictures of the wedding to post on my blog.  Well, well,...change of plan as Auntie asked us not to tire Fussy M out ; travelling all the way down
for the wedding and rush home again.  Anyway, my grand uncle will be travelling by bus this time around,
so cannot get a lift from him; he is too old drive long distance, anyway.   Never mind save,  "$ave" ...all our
energy for next trip.  Congratulations to Kit !

Unlucky week for Sri Bahari

A crane fell after midnight early this month and crashed down on few pre-war old houses, causing one death and 3 injured.  Heard that one of the injured old woman is still in critical condition.  The Sri Bahari road was closed for 3 to 4 days, causing me late for work during the first morning after the incident as the bus had to take a detour.

Later, l learnt that one of houses along that road was fire earlier.  All unfortunate events happening to the same road within the week.

Food story

@ Kirishima

At LK's suggestion, we went to Kirishima for dinner before the 'talk'  last Friday.  Heard so much about this place from Yoshiko-san (the Jepun celup) and later, from LK who is now crazy about Japanese food with the exception of 'raw' .  Seemed like they have changed the menu and we were lost at what to order until finally, manager gave us some recommendation.  LK's favourite teriyaki chicken was overcooked probably because of my fault! Alas! Since, I did not have any cam with me, she took pics of the food from her i-phone until her chicken was 'over-grilled' by the sizzling hot stone.  (As usual and as expected, I got thirsty , not too...nowadays it seemed 'natural' to become thirsty after eaten outside food...in Penang.  I wonder does it happen in other parts of the country?  I thought I am the only 'special choosen' one but it seemed LK also experience it.

Accidentally passed by this curry mee stall last week-end and since we managed to get a table after waiting for a while, decided to try this infamous curry mee that Amanda Soo likes so much !  We gave up during our first attempt after waited quite some time for tables and decided to give up.  Since this is not my favourite, I ordered the plain soup noodle.  Fussy M said the  soup base is tasty but wonder whether we would get thirsty later.  True enough, we got a bit thirsty but it was much bettter than my experience with the Jawa mee !

Plain soup noodle

Curry noodle                                                                  Lot of customers waiting patiently.

Bought few 'chai kueh' and the 'chai tao kueh' which is not bad from this auntie.  Cheap and nice.
Vegetarian Jawa mee  and pineapple fried rice (coarse rice)  at The Leaf Healthy House during the "vegetarian week"
They have renovated the place a bit , moving the counter away so that more space for the tables.  Feel very cozy  and there were a lot of customers probably due to the 'vegetarian week' partly, with a few 'gwei lo' patronising the place.  The Jawa mee is actually spaghetti and tasted superb and I slurpped almost the whole plate.  I was very satisfied until my throat felt a bit dry even when I was still there!  Later, I really felt very thirsty!  Aren't supposed to be organic and no msg whatsover added ?  I even planned to come here for dinner on Friday with LK and changed my mind after that.

Nine Emperors Festival 27Sept to 05Oct11

Tua Pek Kong Temple

View from TPK temple, overlooking a few cows let loose in the cemetry below.

Yoga dog??

The compound of 9 Emperors temple.

Visisted The Nine Emperor's temple which is located at the hill slope at the back of the housing estate.  Have never been there for about 2 years since Fussy M has her attack.  Stopped to pray at the Tua Pek Kong's temple on the way.  Heard that now they employ a few cooks to cook the vegetarian meals enough for everyone ; not like few years back, very frugal on the meals they provide!  Probably, after feedbacks from the residents, the committee has taken the initiative to employ outsider to cook instead of the volunteers who are not generous enough with the food!  Had a hungry lunch upthere.  Very nice, just like home-cooked style.  But got a bit thirsty later in the afternoon.

Anathai- Siamese homecooked

Some dishes that we ordered
Siamese laksa

Finally, visited this place that I heard about from What2See: Best of Penang Food's blog.  After confirming that the place is just nearby the Pulau Tikus market, decided to try out this place.  Ordered my favourite otak-otak which was in two version ie; steamed and fried.  Although Fussy M praised that the food here is better than Sabai-Sabai's but to my surprise , still not short of complaint.  Found out that this place serves Kerabu Rice aka salad rice on Saturdays and Sundays.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival !!!!!!!!

Some basics for the festivals..

Mid-Autumn aka Moon-cake Festival is tomorrow!  These traditional laterns brought back childhood memories.  I still prefer this type of laterns over the electronic ones.  Not much with the electronic laterns although they are safer.

Mooncake Festival is here!!!!!

Can't wait until mid-autumn festival to be here; bought this 'charcoal' mooncake from "Baker's Cottage" to try our first bite, bit expensive cause we didn't get the member's discount.

My favourites : snow-skin mooncakes to go  with the jasmine tea ....gift from Hong Kong.
Raspberry and blueberry snow-skin mooncake from "Tai Tong"

Taste of Korean @ Bee Won

Side dishes (f.o.c.) provided by the owner

Chicken ginseng soup

Dolls collection

Owner's collection of memories

The owner's is very friendly and attentive.  After trying out the food, we both decided that we don't really know how to appreciate Korean food but it seemed healthy; without much frying. The BBQ will be nice but expensive.
